General Policy Statement

BTM Southern Limited promotes its Health and Safety as a mutual objective for Management and Employees at all levels.

The Management of BTM Southern Limited policy is to ensure that all reasonably practicable steps are taken to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the company workforce, the general public and any other persons who may be affected by the company’s activities, undertakings, and operations.

The company shall, so far as is reasonably practicable:

  • Ensure adequate resources are made available for health and safety matters.

  • Put in place effective; planning, organisation, control, monitoring and reviews of its preventative and protective measures.

  • Provide and maintain safe places of work, work equipment and systems of work to minimise risk.

  • Promote health and safety awareness by the provision of information, instruction, and adequate training.

  • Ensure that all members of the workforce are competent to undertake their task(s).

  • Ensure suitable and sufficient supervision.

  • When and where appropriate gain access to competent professional advice.

  • Ensure adequate consultation with the workforce, clients and any other persons affected regarding health and safety matters.

  • Put in place procedures, guidelines and work practices that ensure compliance with the relevant current legislation and this policy.

  • Audit and review this policy and, the company’s health, safety, and welfare provisions on an annual basis.

Delegated Responsibilities

The Managing Director is 'specifically' delegated responsibility for the management and control of health, safety, and welfare for all company ‘activities, undertakings and operations’.

The Contract Manager(s) are specifically delegated responsibility for the management and control of health, safety, and welfare for all ‘site activities, undertakings and operations’ placed under their individual and direct control.

Site Supervisors and Appointed Persons are responsible for the ‘day to day’ management and control for the health, safety and wellbeing of their direct workforce and any other persons who may be affected by their workforce site activities, undertakings, and operations.

All members of management are responsible for implementing this policy.

Workforce

All members of the company workforce have a legal duty and responsibility to ensure that they:                   

  • Comply with the company Health and Safety Policy.

  • Show care and take care of themselves and, others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.

  • Co-operate with the company at all times.

  • Do Not intentionally or recklessly interfere or, misuse anything provided for safety and health.

  • Use work equipment or safety device as they have been trained.

  • Report all health and safety concerns and unsafe conditions to the company immediately.

  • Report all Accidents, Incidents, Dangerous Occurrences and/or Near Misses immediately.
